Louisville Triple Crown of Running℠ donates more than $171,000 to the WHAS Crusade for Children

2012 donation breaks the $1 Million mark for the Race Series total that began in 2002

Louisville, Kentucky (May 29, 2012) - In celebration of the 59th Annual Crusade For Children Benefit on June 2-3, the Louisville Triple Crown of Running will donate a record $171,862 to improve the lives of special needs children.

"The Triple Crown of Running is thrilled to be a part of such an important, long-standing community effort and it is great to see the community rally together in support of this great cause," said Fred Teale, Race Director, Rodes City Run 10K.

Since 2002, the Louisville Triple Crown of Running has contributed more than $1 million to the Crusade for Children.

"A tremendous milestone is reached this year with the cumulative total from the Triple Crown surpassing $1 million," said Dawn Lee, Crusade for Children CEO. "With every dollar from this amazing feat directly helping children with special needs throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana, it is exciting to think of the number of lives that have been improved as a result of this event. Our congratulations and thanks go to the dedicated team of individuals who work year-round to make the Louisville Triple Crown of Running such a huge success."

Triple Crown representatives and sponsors will present the check at the WHAS Crusade for Children Benefit on Saturday evening, June 2, at the Kentucky Center's Bomhard Theatre.

The series, officially named the Louisville Triple Crown of Running, consists of three road races of varying distances and was presented by Novo Nordisk for the ninth-consecutive year. Nearly 30,000 runners participated in all three races resulting in a record donation to the Crusade. The 2012 proceeds, by event, include:

Anthem 5K Fitness Classic 5K (March 3, 2012): $60,000
Rodes City Run 10K (March 17, 2012): $53,000
Papa John's 10 Miler (March 31, 2012): $55,000
Contributions made by participants on behalf of the Triple Crown: $2,191
Other proceeds: $1,671

About the Louisville Triple Crown of Running℠
The Louisville Triple Crown of Running℠, which consists of three road races of varying distances, has a long-established partnership of generosity with the Crusade for Children. In 2011 nearly 30,000 runners participated in all three races, leading to a record attendance for each event. As a result, a record donation of $160,243 was made to the WHAS Crusade for Children, nearly a 20% increase over 2010. The Triple Crown series is proud to be ranked 3rd of all civic organizations that donated to the 2011 Crusade. To date, the Truiple Crown has contributed more than $866,000 to the Crusade since 1984 and we anticipate breaking the $1 Million mark in 2012!
